Keeping to a schedule helps your child appreciate routine. It can be difficult in the beginning, especially when your kids are younger and below six years of age. However, it is your responsibility to initiate a schedule that gradually catches on with your ‘pupils.’ The downside about schedule keeping is the likelihood of attaining a rigid and uncompromising nature that can disrupt a calm homeschool environment. This is why experienced parents who homeschool their kids recommend leaving room for diversity. More so, long periods of profound lessons have the potential to leave your homeschoolers bored. When that happens, their concentration levels take a downward turn.
Furthermore, keep in mind that younger children learn through play, which you can employ in the routine. Additionally, try to be proactive in topic scheduling if you notice your child’s weakness in a specific subject. For example, if Maths seems complicated for your young one, it helps when you sandwich the subject between two other study areas that the child enjoys. First of all, you may want your teaching space to have a semblance of a real classroom to create a homeschool environment. A simple age-appropriate desk and chair can provide enough comfort during lessons. Even better, other classroom furniture like shelves or cupboards would be convenient to keep learning materials. More importantly, it would help keep things organized in the teaching and learning space.
Additionally, the room’s layout should enhance the child’s attentiveness. For example, avoid positioning your homeschooler close to a transparent window or open door. Any distraction from these two points makes your child lose momentary focus, resulting in missing vital information in ongoing lessons.

Noise in the teaching and learning environment destroys the objective of homeschooling. It could be the television, music blaring from an audio sound system, or purely environmental. With the latter, you may have little or no control over that. However, you can ensure that the room where learning takes place is sound-proof enough to enhance teaching.
- Attention to lighting
A poorly lit room does not make a convenient learning environment. Whether you’re using natural daylight brightness or indoor lighting, the goal is to create a comfortable illumination. According to research, poor lighting impacts the brain by making it perform slower. Moreover, melatonin production is forced to increase during the day when it shouldn’t.
Melatonin is a hormone that controls sleep patterns. Production is increased at night to induce sleep. However, poor lighting in any space compels the brain to release significant quantities of melatonin. With this information at the back of your mind, it helps to do the needful to promote learning.
