The new nature documentary on Netflix has us enthralled. “David Attenborough: A Life on Our Planet” is a detailed documentary that opens with the 93-yer-old naturalist walking the decrepit halls of a school near Chernobyl and delves into his boyhood, what inspired him to dedicate his life to animals and preservation and so much more.
Nature Documentary Rich in Information
The nature documentary has stunning photography, which alone is breathtaking for kids of any age. The narrative by the soft-spoken Attenborough is moving while also informative for kids who are fascinated by nature, weather, animals and all things planet Earth. Attenborough takes the story back to when he was a child and what inspired him to become one of the most traveled and famous conservationists in the world.
We loved it so much, we turned it into a unit study, because, ya know, homeschoolers. There was a ton of free classes, worksheets and info online to wade through. It can be overwhelming. We stuck to Varsity Tutors free online courses and a few paid ones. Most of the courses are $10-$15 an hour.

Be a Planet Earth Hero and learn about energy and nature conservation through books and songs. There’s also a hands-on lab that kids can create using household materials.
Have a “Finding Nemo” fan? Instructors teach about aquatic organisms through the movie “Finding Nemo.” Kids will learn about coral reefs, aquatic plants, and aquatic animals. They’ll learn how sting rays, sharks, jellyfish, octopuses, sea turtles, fish find their food source, how they breathe, and unique qualities, such as growing a new limb! They also touch on scuba diving, Sydney Harbor and other interesting things from the movie.
2nd – 3rd Grade

Have a kid curious about the ocean and all its creatures? This interactive class encourages kids to be curious and ask lots of questions. Kids will dive into how animals breathe, form families and survive in the vast oceans.
4th-5th Grade
Protect the Environment, Save Energy and Conserve Nature
Kids will learn ways to protect the environment, study energy and nature conservation through books and songs. There’s also a hands-on lab that kids can create using household materials.
The instructor encourages kids to ask questions, explore their interests and inspire students to explore careers in science and technology in relation to oceanography.
Grades 6-8
An expert instructor teaches this highly engaged class and discusses the various ocean ecosystems and how kids can be a part in making a difference in conserving them.

High School
Teens will learn how to take actions on a local level and discuss energy and nature conservation. A hands-on lab using common household objects and recycled materials is part of this interactive class with a live instructor.
This live online class explores and investigates the interrelationships of the ecosystems on the Earth and analyzes environmental problems from nature and human perspective.
