Women’s History Month has blossomed from a small footnote to a wide celebration of well- and little-known women who have changed the world through their brave and determined actions. Knowing the full story of how women have contributed to history through the ages can inspire young children in many ways. Understanding women’s strengths and their many contributions can help a child build confidence as well as respect for women, industries and fields.

How Women’s History Can Inspire

Once kids begin to research a person who has accomplished great things, they become invested in their lives. They ask more questions and ask for more information. There are many movies, documentaries and segments on TV shows, but really getting into the background of why, what and how women changed history really sparks inspiration and interest in students.

I have attached a list of 50 women, including Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who have made a significant impact on society and the world through their actions along with links to research their accomplishments and works. The worksheets and prompts can inspire your kids to find out more about their chosen person or persons. I have included a lengthy collection of great resources to spark your child’s interest.

This is just a springboard to begin. Once your child begins to research a woman in history from the list and all they have accomplished, they can be inspired to move on to other famous women in history.

The guided prompts will help them track down information and learn more about what motivated the famous woman to realize her dreams and change the lives of many by the actions of one.

This short research assignment can be broken down into chunks over time or completed in an afternoon. Allow your child to explore all aspects of their chosen person with the writing prompts, research resources, and different ways they can create a simple essay, book report, video or slide presentation.
